Today we’re going to talk about the consequences of DWI convictions.
In North Carolina, typically DWIs are treated as misdemeanors and you face all the consequences of any misdemeanor such as fines, community service, probation, and sometimes jail time.
Unlike most misdemeanors, however; there’s also a license suspension consequence that comes with a DWI conviction. The minimum license suspension for DWI conviction is at least one year. They can be up to a permanent revocation if you’ve had multiple DWI convictions in the past. Also, unlike most misdemeanors a DWI can never be expunged no matter how much the time has passed since the conviction.
We’d like to remind our clients that though DWIs are common, they should be treated with the high level of urgency. If you’ve been charged with a DWI in North Carolina you should contact an attorney immediately so you can discuss with you what your options are and what to do going forward.
